It has been over 20 years since the release of The Forest Show, Wind Music’s first album in the Music with the Sounds of Nature series, and Wu Judy Chin-tai continues to visit places in the mountain wilderness and by the sea, recording the precious sounds of animals, traditional music, and more. Her recordings, incorporated with other music, have been released as several albums.
For this album, Nature’s Whispering, she has compiled sounds and music from her brilliant collection of over 20 years. Though many of the sounds are from Taiwan, they also include those collected on her travels to different corners of the world, allowing listeners to experience through her perspective sounds from places either difficult to access or that are in a state of transformation. In this album, you will hear the sounds of rare Taiwanese cicadas, the waves of Liuqiu Island, the melting glaciers and brilliance of the northern lights in Northern Europe, and the movements of all kinds of life on the vast grasslands of East Africa. In addition, the first track contains a sample of nearly lost traditional singing of the Tsou tribe, which Judy recorded in 1994.
It has been ten years since she released her last solo album. In her work with the sounds of nature, she and her team of award-winning musicians incorporate many contemporary elements of arrangement, including music from different eras and genres (such as electronic music and chamber music). The album is an expression of the diversity and inclusiveness of nature music, which will perhaps alter people’s impression of the genre.
Everyone is able to do something for the earth. By collecting sounds and creating music, Judy continues to document the environment and land from her own microcosmic perspective. As you hear nature whispering of its movement in this album, we hope you too will love and care for this beautiful earth even more.
